Give Me the Night is George Benson’s polished jazz-funk breakthrough, where his virtuosic guitar and smooth vocal style met a sharp pop sensibility. Released in 1980 and produced by Quincy Jones, the album moved Benson firmly into the mainstream without losing the musical sophistication of his jazz background. It yielded the Grammy-winning title track and the hit “Love X Love”, while blending soul-jazz, contemporary R&B and dancefloor-ready funk into one of his most successful recordings. The album helped define the sophisticated crossover sound of early-1980s urban pop and remains one of Benson’s best-known works.
