From Genesis to Revelation is a fascinating debut that captures Genesis before they became prog giants. Released in 1969, it pairs gentle psychedelic pop with early signs of the theatrical, harmonically rich writing that would define the band’s later work. Produced by Jonathan King, the album was originally issued with little success, but songs such as Silent Sun and Where the Sour Turns to Sweet show the group’s developing melodic and lyrical ambition. Its modest reception only adds to its appeal now: this is the sound of a future major act still searching for its identity.
