  • Calling all music and plant lovers!

Sacred Bones is proud to present the rare reissue of “Mother Earth’s Plantasia” by Canadian composer Mort Garson. This is the very first official reissue of the cult album—long out of print and highly sought after by record collectors—which continues to sell for collector’s prices on online marketplaces like Discogs.

Originally released in 1976, the LP was created to provide auditory stimulation for houseplants. Album highlights include tracks with such melodious titles as “Symphony For A Spider Plant” and “Music To Soothe The Savage Snake Plant.” “Plantasia” was inspired by “The Secret Life of Plants,” a non-fiction book written by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird that attracted a great deal of attention in the mid-1970s.

In it, occultist and former OSS agent Tompkins, together with dowser and former CIA agent Bird, claimed that houseplants can read our minds, predict natural disasters, and—above all—love to listen to music.

“Plantasia” is one of the first records to feature a Moog synthesizer. Garson composed “Plantasia” at the time for the Los Angeles-based plant shop Mother Earth and used the recently released Moog synthesizer for the recordings. The album was sold exclusively to customers who had stocked up on plants at Mother Earth.
