About this album

Them Or Us is a sprawling and sharply inventive 1984 album from Frank Zappa, balancing avant-garde experimentation, hard rock attack and biting satire. Recorded and produced by Zappa himself, it reflects his late-period command of studio detail and his restless habit of folding humour, social commentary and virtuosic playing into the same record. The album ranges from pummelling rock cuts to more intricate, jazz-tinged arrangements, with standout moments such as Stevie's Spanking, Sharleena and the title track showing both his compositional ambition and his command of parody. It remains a vivid example of Zappa's irreverent, genre-crossing approach.
