Foghat’s self-titled debut set out the band’s hard rock credentials with a bluesy, workingman’s punch. Issued in 1972, the album introduced the original Foghat line-up after their split from Savoy Brown, with Rod Price’s guitar and Lonesome Dave Peverett’s vocals giving the group a tougher, more direct identity. Their take on Willie Dixon’s I Just Want To Make Love To You became a standout, while originals such as Trouble, Trouble and Highway (Killing Me) helped establish the band’s boogie-driven style. The record laid the groundwork for Foghat’s later commercial breakthrough and remains an early statement of their stripped-back, riff-led approach.
