About this album
Moving Waves is a key early statement from Focus, the Dutch band that helped bring progressive and symphonic rock to a wider audience in the early 1970s. Issued in 1972, the album blends classical-bred musicianship, sharp guitar work and Jan Akkerman’s and Thijs van Leer’s distinctive musical interplay into a form that is both ambitious and accessible. Its best-known piece, Hocus Pocus, became an international calling card thanks to its eccentric yodelling, riff-driven energy and fearless humour. The record’s mix of instrumental virtuosity and melodic immediacy made it one of the group’s most enduring releases.
