Focus gathers early highlights from the Dutch prog-rock band at the moment their ambition and invention were attracting wider attention. Issued in 1975, the compilation draws on the group’s early catalogue, where classical touches, jazz-inflected musicianship and abrupt humour sat beside memorable hooks. “Hocus Pocus” became their best-known song, but the set also reflects the breadth of the band’s instrumental writing and the flair of guitarist Jan Akkerman and keyboardist Thijs van Leer.
