On his new album "God's Favorite Customer" Father John Misty 2018 assembles ten strong songs of the usual outstanding songwriting quality, with wit and the proven pinch of absurdity
None of the previous Father John Misty albums have received as much attention and praise as the "Pure Comedy" released in April last year. Now album number four about Bella Union follows with "God's Favorite Customer"
Produced by Tillman himself and recorded with Jonathan Rado, Dave Cerminara and Trevor Spencer, the guest list includes names like The Haxan Cloak, Natalie Mering (Weyes Blood), long time collaborator and label mate Jonathan Wilson and members of his live band
"God's Favorite Customer" was largely created in New York between summer 2016 and winter 2017 and deals with the contradictory experience of mourning a broken heart and the manic phases of freedom. Tillman's songwriting is bittersweet and direct, without losing any of its wit and the well-known tendency towards absurdity.
