    Eric Burdon Declares “War” is a brash, genre-crossing debut that introduced the partnership between former Animals singer Eric Burdon and the band War. Released in 1970, it fused psychedelic rock, soul and funk into a loose, experimental sound that helped define the early West Coast crossover between rock and rhythm and blues. The album’s best-known moment, “Spill the Wine”, became an international hit and set the tone for Burdon’s move away from British blues towards heavier, more fluid American grooves. Its mix of improvisation, social edge and musical swagger makes it an important early statement from both Burdon and War.
