Ennio Morricone’s score for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of cinema’s most enduring western soundtracks. Written for Sergio Leone’s 1966 film, it turned whistles, guitar twang, voices and spare orchestration into a signature musical language for the Spaghetti Western. The main theme and set pieces such as L’Estasi Dell’Oro and Il Triello helped define the film’s mythic tension, making the music as memorable as the imagery. Widely regarded as a landmark of screen composition, the soundtrack influenced generations of film makers and composers far beyond the western genre.
