Ella Langley’s hungover is the Alabama singer-songwriter’s debut album, first released in 2024 and later brought to vinyl in a limited coloured pressing. It introduced a wider audience to Langley’s mix of candid country writing, Southern-rock grit and pop-ready hooks, with the Riley Green duet “you look like you love me” becoming her first Billboard Hot 100 entry. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Will Bundy, the album arrives with a clear sense of voice rather than a tentative first step.
Langley co-wrote every song here, and that consistency gives hungover its shape: funny, bruised, confrontational and unexpectedly tender, often circling bad decisions, near misses and romantic fallout without sanding down the edges. Songs like “nicotine” and “paint the town blue” lean into that punchy, modern-country energy, while “closest to heaven” adds a more vulnerable counterweight. The closing monologue, written with her mother Heather, gives the record an extra autobiographical touch that suits its plain-spoken tone.
What makes hungover stick is how comfortably Langley balances twang, attitude and melody. It’s a debut that helped establish her as more than a streaming breakout: a Nashville artist with a strong writing identity and a feel for songs that sound lived-in rather than polished for effect.
