Recorded in 1956, the album showcases Fitzgerald’s immaculate phrasing, cool assurance and effortless swing across songs such as The Lady Is a Tramp, Manhattan and Blue Moon-era favourites from the Rodgers and Hart catalogue. Part of her celebrated collaboration with arranger and producer Buddy Bregman for Verve, it helped define the idea of the modern jazz vocalist as interpreter, bringing theatrical material into the heart of the post-war jazz canon.
