About this album
Ella Sings Gershwin is a graceful showcase for Ella Fitzgerald’s impeccable phrasing and swing. Issued in 1951, the EP draws on the Gershwin songbook, setting her supple voice against melodies that helped define American popular music and Broadway tradition alike. Fitzgerald’s clear tone, rhythmic ease and emotional poise make familiar standards feel freshly balanced between jazz improvisation and stage sophistication. As part of her early 1950s run of song-focused releases, it captures the qualities that made her one of the era’s supreme interpreters: technical control, warmth and an unforced ability to make every line sound natural.
