Ella And Basie! is an LP by Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie Orchestra from 1975 released on the Verve Records label.
About this album
Ella And Basie! is a superb meeting of two jazz giants, pairing Ella Fitzgerald’s immaculate phrasing with Count Basie’s lean, swinging orchestra. Issued in 1963, the album catches Fitzgerald in comfortable, authoritative form over arrangements that give her voice room to glide, play and improvise. The repertoire leans on standards such as “Honeysuckle Rose”, “Satin Doll” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, turning familiar material into a showcase for elegance, timing and easy rhythmic lift. Widely admired for its relaxed authority, the album stands as one of the most enjoyable documents of Fitzgerald’s late-peak command and Basie’s effortless swing.
