About this album

A Long Vacation is Eiichi Ohtaki’s defining city pop statement and one of the most influential Japanese pop albums of the 1980s. Released in 1981, it brought together polished pop-rock, rock ’n’ roll and kayōkyoku with a bright, seaside feel that helped define the genre’s modern sound. Ohtaki’s elegant production, rich melodies and meticulous studio craft give the record its enduring appeal, while songs such as “君は天然色”, “雨のウェンズデイ” and “さらばシベリア鉄道” became key favourites. Its long-lasting popularity has made it a landmark of Japanese popular music and a touchstone for later city pop artists.
