About this album
Breaker Morant is a taut, historically charged soundtrack that blends martial pomp with folk song and elegiac atmosphere. Issued in 1980 for the Australian film about the Boer War court martial, the score brings together Edward Woodward, The Breaker Concert Orchestra and The Leonine Consort to frame the story’s loyalty, nationalism and tragedy. Familiar tunes such as Soldiers of the Queen, The British Grenadiers and Land of Hope and Glory sit alongside instrumental and choral material, giving the music both period colour and dramatic weight. As a screen soundtrack, it captures the film’s sense of ceremony, conflict and loss with striking clarity.
