About this album

Eddie Murphy is a brash, breakthrough comedy album that turned a rising performer into a major pop-culture name. Released in 1982, the set captures Murphy’s fast-rising early stand-up persona in a string of sharply written routines that mix social satire, character work and fearless punchlines. Material such as “Faggots”, “Black Movie Theaters” and “Boogie In Your Butt” shows the blend of provocation and charisma that made him a star beyond television and film. As an early document of his stand-up success, the album helped define Murphy’s comic voice and cement his status as one of the era’s most visible performers.
