    On The Border sharpened the Eagles’ early country-rock formula and marked a tougher, more electric step in the band’s rise. Issued in 1974, the album broadened their sound with harder guitar work and a clearer pop sensibility, while still drawing on the close harmonies and road-tested songwriting that defined their early years. Best of My Love became the breakthrough single and helped push the group towards mainstream dominance, while songs such as Already Gone and James Dean show the band balancing California ease with a firmer rock pulse. It is widely regarded as a key transition point in the Eagles’ catalogue.
