    A landmark meeting of two jazz giants, Duke Ellington & John Coltrane pairs Ellington’s refined compositional elegance with Coltrane’s searching modernism. Recorded in 1962 and released in 1963, the session brought together Ellington on piano, Coltrane on tenor saxophone and a small supporting ensemble for a set that balances classic song craft with adventurous improvisation. Their reading of In a Sentimental Mood became one of the most celebrated collaborations in either artist’s catalogue, while Take the Coltrane and My Little Brown Book underline the album’s subtle blend of swing, lyricism and harmonic depth. It remains one of the great cross-generational encounters in jazz.
