About this album
The Best Of Dr. Hook is a strong early overview of the band’s cheeky, country-tinged pop-rock, gathering the songs that made them a crossover name in the mid-1970s. Built around hits such as Sylvia’s Mother and Cover of the Rolling Stone, it shows Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show’s gift for sly humour, memorable hooks and singalong choruses. Their blend of soft rock, barroom wit and Nashville flavour helped set them apart from harder-edged contemporaries, while also making them radio favourites. As a compilation, it works as a concise snapshot of a band whose playful style and melodic instinct gave them lasting appeal.
