About this album
2001 is Dr. Dre’s long-awaited second solo release and a defining late-’90s West Coast hip-hop statement. Arriving seven years after The Chronic, it reaffirmed Dre’s role as one of rap’s most influential producers, pairing heavyweight beats with a polished G-funk sound and sharp guest verses from Snoop Dogg, Eminem and others. Its singles, including Still D.R.E., Forgot About Dre and The Next Episode, became era-defining hits and helped keep gangsta rap dominant at the turn of the millennium. Widely regarded as one of Dre’s key works, the album extended his reputation for setting the pace of mainstream hip-hop.
