Laughing At The Pieces is Doctor & The Medics’ eccentric and memorable 1986 debut, balancing pop-rock hooks, glam theatrics and psychedelic colour. Best known for their exuberant version of Spirit In The Sky, the band turned a Norman Greenbaum song into a UK hit and defined their offbeat, carnival-like image in the process. Across the album, the group lean into playful songwriting, singalong choruses and a deliberately theatrical sense of humour that helped set them apart from more serious mid-80s rock acts.
