Freedom Of Choice is an LP by Devo from 1980 released on the Warner Bros. Records label.
About this album
Freedom of Choice is Devo’s most accessible and enduring statement, sharpening the band’s art-school absurdism into a taut new wave classic. Released in 1980, the album pushed their mechanised riffs, rubbery synths and deadpan vocals into leaner, more direct songcraft, while still skewering conformity, consumer culture and personal freedom. Produced by Robert Margouleff and Bill C. Smith, it yielded Devo’s signature hit Whip It, but the record’s appeal runs deeper through tracks such as Girl U Want and Gates of Steel. Its blend of satire, hooks and icy precision helped make Devo one of the defining acts of the early MTV era.
