    Construction Time Again sharpened Depeche Mode’s synth-pop into something tougher, darker and more politically charged. Released in 1983, the album marked a major step forward for the band, bringing industrial textures and sampled found sounds into their electronic pop framework while keeping the hooks immediate. Working with producer Gareth Jones, Depeche Mode broadened their palette on songs such as “Everything Counts”, which became one of their defining early hits, and the album helped establish the more ambitious sound that would carry them through the rest of the decade. It remains a key release in their catalogue and a landmark of 1980s electronic music.
