Hysteria is Def Leppard’s blockbuster hard rock statement, and one of the most finely engineered arena albums of the 1980s. Released in 1987 after a famously lengthy and exacting recording process, it paired the band with producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, whose meticulous approach helped shape its polished, multi-layered sound. Singles such as Pour Some Sugar On Me, Love Bites, Animal and Rocket gave the album massive crossover reach, pushing Def Leppard from hard rock favourites into global stadium headliners. Its mix of precision, melody and scale made Hysteria a defining release of the era.
