    About this album

The Opal Heart is a strong post-bop statement from Dave Liebman Quartet and pianist Mike Nock, bringing lyrical improvisation and modern harmonic bite into clear focus. Issued in 1979, the album pairs Liebman’s fluid, expressive horn work with Nock’s elegant, rhythmically alert piano writing, creating music that feels both composed and open-ended. The group moves easily between flowing originals and a thoughtful reading of standards such as I Concentrate On You and Star Crossed Lovers, balancing lyricism with adventurous ensemble interplay. It stands as a fine example of late-1970s jazz that kept the post-bop language vital and personal.
