    Penis Envy is Crass at their most focused and provocative, turning anarcho-punk into a direct attack on sexual politics, domestic roles and social control. Released in 1981, the album sharpened the band’s abrasive sound while expanding the scope of their critique, with songs such as The System and Poison in a Pretty Pill drawing out their fiercely feminist outlook. Crass combined raw urgency, spoken-word intensity and jagged guitars to make a record that was as much manifesto as album. Its influence on political punk has been lasting, helping define the confrontational edge of the anarcho-punk movement.
