About this album
Colleen Hewett’s self-titled 1972 album is a strong showcase for one of Australia’s most distinctive voices, blending pop, soul and gospel-tinged balladry with real emotional force. Built around songs that move from the devotional sweep of Day By Day to powerful interpretations of material such as Don’t Play That Song (You Lied) and Superstar, the record highlights Hewett’s range and conviction as a singer. Arriving at a time when Australian pop was finding a stronger local identity, it helped establish her as a major performer rather than just a singles act and remains a key statement in her early catalogue.
