    About this album

On The Beach is one of Chris Rea’s most assured mid-1980s albums, pairing smooth pop-rock craft with the smoky guitar tone and reflective writing that set him apart. Issued in 1986, it found Rea working in a polished soft-rock setting without losing the melancholy edge that runs through his best songs. The title track became a signature, while cuts such as Little Blonde Plaits and Giverny show his ear for melody and place. The album helped strengthen Rea’s profile across Europe and remains a strong example of his understated, adult-oriented songwriting style.
