Chicago is a powerful early statement from the band that fused rock energy with jazz sophistication. Released in 1970, the double album expanded the possibilities of mainstream rock with horn-led arrangements, complex rhythms and a breadth that ranged from hard-driving ensemble pieces to reflective, more experimental passages. Its breakthrough single, ‘25 or 6 to 4’, became one of the group’s signature songs and helped establish Chicago as a major force in American album rock. Bold, ambitious and musically dense, the record laid the groundwork for the band’s long run of commercial success and critical respect.
