About this album
Izitso shows Cat Stevens broadening his sound without losing the melodic directness that made him a major singer-songwriter. Issued in 1977, the album blends soft rock, folk-pop and electronic textures, with keyboards and synth-driven arrangements giving his familiar acoustic writing a sharper, more contemporary edge. “(Remember the Days of the) Old Schoolyard” became the album’s best-known song, while tracks such as “Was Dog a Doughnut” point to Stevens’ interest in experimental rhythm and machine-like grooves. The result is one of his most distinctive late-70s records, balancing reflective songwriting with a clear move towards modern studio colour.
