About this album
Women And Captains First is Captain Sensible’s sharpest and best-known solo statement, folding punk mischief into infectious new wave pop. Issued in 1982, the album made the Damned guitarist a charting solo name thanks to the novelty smash Wot, a sly, absurdist single that became a major UK hit and defined his comic persona. Elsewhere, the record balances humour, hooks and stripped-back energy, showing how Sensible could turn attitude into memorable pop without losing his bite. It remains a snapshot of early-1980s British new wave at its most playful and commercially astute.
