CODE," the most commercially successful album by the Sheffield-based electronic pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, is finally available again—after being out of print for years. Originally released in 1987, the band’s eighth studio album has been remastered from the original tapes by Denis Blackham, who has mastered or remastered all of Cabaret Voltaire’s albums for over 20 years. The reissue is being released by Mute and features the original artwork in a restored form. Co-produced with dub icon Adrian Sherwood, *CODE* marks a bold step toward synth-pop and mechanical funk. It was Cabaret Voltaire’s last album produced with a large budget while still remaining uncompromisingly authentic. With the singles “Don’t Argue” and “Here to Go,” both of which were chart hits, it ranks among the highlights of the band’s discography. Work on this reissue began in 2019 in collaboration with Richard H. Kirk. Following his far-too-early death, the project was completed based on his notes and in close collaboration with Stephen Malinder and the estate of Richard H. Kirk—a fitting tribute to his extraordinary legacy.
