One Of A Kind is Bruford’s inventive 1979 jazz-rock landmark, uniting virtuosic musicianship with tightly structured, melodic compositions. The debut under Bill Bruford’s own name after his work with Yes and King Crimson, it features a band built around guitarist Allan Holdsworth and bassist Jeff Berlin, with Bruford’s drumming driving the music from within rather than simply keeping time. Released on E.G. Records, the album helped define the more refined edge of late-1970s jazz-rock and prog, balancing technical complexity with real harmonic colour and momentum. Its reputation has only grown as one of the era’s most distinctive fusion statements.
