A collection of recordings by David Bowie made before his self-titled debut album from 1967 and his breakthrough album from 1969—which is also titled “David Bowie” but is better known as “Space Oddity” —will be released later this summer.
The CD version of “The Shel Talmy Recordings” features 22 tracks, including 10 previously unreleased songs recorded in 1965 by Bowie and the producer of The Who and The Kinks, when Bowie was still performing under his birth name, David Jones.
“The Shel Talmy Recordings” also features early contributions from guitarist Jimmy Page, who was working as a session musician at the time, as well as keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, who later performed with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, among others.
The release includes ten previously unreleased tracks on CD and six on LP. The collection features previously unreleased compositions, alternate versions, and tracks such as “You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving” and “Baby Loves That Way,” which were originally released as singles on Parlophone.
