Third Stage is Boston’s polished and long-awaited comeback, arriving eight years after Don’t Look Back and reaffirming the band’s signature blend of soaring harmonies, layered guitars and melodic hard rock. Released in 1986, the album was led by the hit ballad Amanda, which became Boston’s first and biggest chart success in the UK and one of their most recognisable songs. Built around the meticulous studio craft associated with Tom Scholz, the record balanced muscular rockers such as Cool the Engines with the more radio-friendly sheen that had made Boston a major arena-rock force in the first place.
