    About this album

The Birth Of A Legend is a revealing compilation of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh’s early work with The Wailers, tracing the group’s leap from ska and rocksteady towards reggae. Issued in 1977, it gathers formative recordings that show Marley’s and Tosh’s distinct voices taking shape over taut rhythms, harmony-rich choruses and lean, melodic arrangements. Rather than a greatest-hits survey, it offers context for how Jamaican popular music evolved in the 1960s and helped prepare the sound that would soon reach a worldwide audience. For listeners interested in the roots of Marley’s legacy, it is an illuminating historical snapshot.
