About this album
Natty Dread is a landmark roots reggae album that helped define Bob Marley’s breakthrough as a solo voice and global cultural force. Released in 1975, it was the first Wailers album credited to Bob Marley & The Wailers after the departure of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, and it sharpened Marley’s role as both songwriter and spokesman. With militant grooves, devotional optimism and songs such as No Woman, No Cry, Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) and Rebel Music, the record broadened reggae’s reach beyond Jamaica while deepening its political and spiritual resonance. Its blend of urgency and melody made it one of Marley’s most important statements.
