"Babylon By Bus" is a live double album recorded largely during a 3-night series of shows in June 1978 at the 10,000 capacity Pavillon de Paris.

While the Wailers were primarily a vehicle for Marley's vocals and songwriting genius, Babylon By Bus provided a unique opportunity to showcase the musicianship of the world's greatest reggae band. The unbeatable rhythm section - Aston and Carlton Barrett on bass and drums respectively - had remained unchanged since 1970. Unchanging, immovable and immeasurable in their contribution, they formed the foundation on which the band's performances were built. Reggae music, with its counterintuitive rhythmic structure - where the downbeat comes on the first and third beat in the measure (as opposed to the ubiquitous second and fourth "backbeat" in rock and pop) - is defined by the groove. And from the upbeat "Positive Vibration" on side one to the grandiose, blaring, extended finale of "Jamming" at the end of side four, the Barretts delivered a stylish sequence of the massive, rumbling yet nimble grooves that underpinned the Wailers' best work
