The Times They Are A-Changin' is one of Bob Dylan’s most direct and uncompromising early albums, turning folk song into hard-edged social commentary. Released in 1964, it sharpened his reputation as a generational voice with stark originals such as the title track, “Ballad of Hollis Brown” and “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll”. Built around voice, acoustic guitar and harmonica, the record is less ornate than his later work but more focused in intent, giving its civil-rights-era themes real force.
