Issued in 1978, it marked a striking follow-up to his mid-decade reinvention and showed Dylan writing with renewed urgency and ambiguity. Songs such as Changing of the Guards and Señor (Tales of Yankee Power) became standouts for their vivid imagery and restless spiritual questioning, while the album’s dramatic, crowded arrangements divided opinion at the time.
