Bob Dylan – Bob Dylan - The Rolling Thunder Review 1976: Fort Worth Texas, May 16th (3xLP)

Bob Dylan's The Rolling Thunder Revue 1976: Fort Worth Texas, May 16th captures the complete Fort Worth show from May 16, 1976, during the second leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue. Rather than a highlights package, this 3xLP set presents the full concert from a tour that stretched across 27 dates in spring 1976, a period when Dylan was reshaping familiar songs in front of larger crowds and with a harder-edged live attack.

What makes this release especially worthwhile is how much of it opens up previously unheard material from a closely watched chapter in Dylan's career: 18 of its 22 performances are previously unreleased, and the audio has been remixed from the original multi-track tapes. That gives the set real documentary value, but it also underlines how changeable Dylan's live repertoire could be, moving from the bite of "Maggie's Farm" to the slow-burn intensity of "Isis" and the long, bruised "Idiot Wind" without losing momentum.

It also helps fill in the picture of the 1976 Rolling Thunder Revue beyond the small portion once represented by Hard Rain. For listeners interested in Dylan on stage rather than in retrospect, this is a substantial, well-framed snapshot of the tour at full length, with the drama, looseness and force of the performance left intact.
