Blonde on Blonde is widely regarded as Bob Dylan’s masterpiece and one of the defining albums of 1960s rock. Released in 1966, it completed his rapid shift from protest folk to electric, road-worn songwriting, folding rock, blues and surreal lyricism into a vast double album. Recorded with a sharp Nashville team, the record gave Dylan a looser, more fluid sound while preserving the bite and wit of his writing. Songs such as Visions of Johanna, I Want You and Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands helped make it a benchmark for ambitious songwriting and a touchstone for folk rock.
