The Great Escape is an LP by Blur from 1995 released on the Food, Parlophone label.
About this album
The Great Escape is Blur’s sharpest and most satirical Britpop statement, turning mid-’90s British life into a set of gleaming, uneasy pop songs. Released in 1995, it followed the breakthrough of Parklife and pushed the band further towards widescreen hooks, crisp melodies and Damon Albarn’s sharply observed characters and social sketches. Country House became a major chart hit and helped define the Blur-versus-Oasis moment, while The Universal showed the group could match irony with grandeur. The album’s blend of wit, melody and anxiety made it one of the era’s defining British rock records.
