    Outsideinside is Blue Cheer’s ferocious second album and one of the most important early heavy-rock records. Released in 1968, it pushed the band’s already notorious volume into a harsher, more adventurous blend of hard rock, psychedelia and blues, helping define the template for later heavy and doom-minded groups. Recorded amid the turmoil of the period and issued with a raw, abrasive edge, the album balances brutal riffing with warped cover versions and extended improvisation. Its reputation has only grown over time as a landmark of San Francisco’s louder, more extreme side, with a sound that helped widen the possibilities of rock at the end of the 1960s.
