Released in 1982, it followed the massive success of Autoamerican and arrived as the band was nearing the end of its first era. The record keeps Blondie’s melodic instinct intact, with polished new wave and pop rock arrangements that frame Debbie Harry’s cool, detached delivery and Chris Stein’s sharp songwriting. Highlights such as Island of Lost Souls and War Child show the group still capable of memorable hooks, even as the album reflects the pressures surrounding their final years before the split that followed.
