Damaged is Black Flag’s landmark hardcore statement, a raw and confrontational record that helped define the genre’s American template. Issued in 1981, it captured the Los Angeles band at full intensity, led by Henry Rollins after the group’s early punk beginnings and sharpened by the aggressive guitar attack of Greg Ginn. Across songs such as Rise Above, Six Pack and TV Party, the album turns frustration, alienation and anti-authoritarian fury into short, explosive blasts. Its bleak humour, speed and volatility made it one of the most influential hardcore releases of its era and a lasting reference point for punk that followed.
