Debut is Björk’s breakthrough solo statement, fusing club music, pop and avant-garde instincts into one of the defining albums of the 1990s. Released in 1993, it marked her first full-length record after the Sugarcubes and introduced a voice that could move easily between delicate intimacy and startling force. Working with producers including Nellee Hooper, Björk shaped songs such as Human Behaviour, Venus as a Boy and Big Time Sensuality into sleek, inventive electronic pop with deep-house pulse and experimental edge. The album’s critical success helped establish her as one of modern music’s most original artists and a key bridge between mainstream pop and left-field electronic music.
