About this album
The Original Recordings is a strong Billie Holiday compilation that gathers the performances that made her one of jazz’s most influential voices. Issued in 1973, it draws on key sides from her classic 1930s and early 1940s work, when her phrasing, timing and emotional directness reshaped popular singing. Songs such as God Bless the Child, All of Me, My Man and Gloomy Sunday show how she could turn familiar material into something unmistakably personal. The set also includes a spoken conversation with producer John Hammond, adding valuable context to the records that helped define her legend.
