Recorded at Montreux in 1968, the set captures Evans in a particularly expressive period, drawing on standards and originals such as “Nardis”, “I Loves You Porgy” and “Someday My Prince Will Come” to show both his harmonic subtlety and his ability to reshape familiar material in performance. The album is widely regarded as one of his most rewarding live recordings, notable for its balance of restraint, depth and spontaneous invention, and for the way it helped define the modern jazz trio format.
